History of the Gregorian Calendar

The Gregorian calendar is the most generally used calendar system in the world today. It consists of 365 days in a standard year, with an extra day added to February during a leap year. Pope Gregory XIII introduced the Gregorian calendar to correct this drift. He eliminated 10 days from the calendar, making October 15, 1582, follow October 4. Additionally, he modified the leap year rule: century years not divisible by 400 would no longer be leap years. This adjustment reduced the error to just 1 day every 3,030 years.
